About Me

Welcome! I'm the face behind Growing Vegetables Down Under — a passion project dedicated to helping Australians grow their own vegetables at home, no matter their experience level.

Why I started Growing Vegetables Down Under

I believe gardening is good for the head, the heart and the hips. There's something deeply satisfying about planting a seed, nurturing it, and harvesting your own fresh food. My goal is to make vegetable gardening accessible, practical, and fun for Aussie growers — especially those in cool-climate regions.

Through this site I share free planting guides, how-to articles, a regular podcast, and a growing range of gardening products — from plant markers and seed storage to microgreen kits. Everything is designed to help you get growing with confidence.

Whether you're setting up your first garden bed, experimenting with microgreens on your kitchen bench, or looking for month-by-month planting advice, you'll find friendly, down-to-earth guidance here.

Beyond the planting guides and how-to content, the site is built around the belief that every Australian can grow something, regardless of the size of their space or their level of experience. From balcony pots and raised beds to full backyard plots, the resources cover the essentials of soil preparation, watering, fertilising, and seasonal rotation so that growers can work with their local climate rather than against it. Practical topics like companion planting, seed saving, composting, and managing pests and diseases naturally are explored in plain language, making it easy for beginners to get started while still offering depth for more seasoned gardeners looking to refine their methods.

The community-minded approach extends beyond written guides into workshops, downloadable resources, and a podcast that keeps gardeners connected through the changing seasons. Whether you are planning a spring crop, preparing beds for autumn, or trying to keep your winter greens thriving, the goal is to help you feel confident and capable in the garden. There is a strong emphasis on organic and sustainable practices, from wicking beds and worm farming to seaweed feeding and mindful water use, all aimed at producing healthy food while caring for the land. It is a welcoming space for anyone ready to dig in and enjoy the rewards of growing their own vegetables.
